Workshop for student teachers: Designing your own course site for classroom teaching

Use your student experience to design a course the way you think it should be 

Purpose/ Content

The main purpose with this workshop is to provide insight and skills into how you can design course sites and set up well-organised learning modules in Blackboard.

After the course you will be able to navigate within Blackboard and design aesthetic course pages, using the basic tools as well as be able to edit your course pages, so it fits with your teaching

Activities

1. Navigation

  • General introduction to existing course site template
  • Blackboard overview (My courses, Settings options, Blackboard profile)
  • Teaching and learning strategies and course design (examples of existing course designs for instructors)

2. Course content

  • Course set up and learning modules
  • Edit my course site - upload teaching materials to students
  • Sending messages/ emails to students

3. Re-use content

  • Re-use materials on various classes/courses and from previous semesters

4. Collaborative tools

  • Blogs, wikis, diaries and discussion boards
  • How to manage groups

5. Assignment and test

  • Handling student presentations and submission of assignments - create a folder in which my students can upload materials
  • Tasks and feedback on assignments in grade center.
  • Building test, various types of questions and reuse of existing questions.
  • The participants will get hands-on experience with the presented tools

Preparations

  • Participants must bring a PC or Mac and have access to mit.au.dk and Blackboard
