Practice-based research into

university teaching and learning

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is an educational research and development unit.

The centre's research is a prerequisite for the centre being able to offer courses and consultancy services at a high level of quality and credibility.

The research activities ensure that the centre's courses and consultancy services rest on systematic and well-founded knowledge, where available; are provided on a transparent basis; are presented with the requisite attention to detail and humility demanded by the complexity of research-based teaching; and are consequently associated with a high level of credibility by university researchers.

The centre's research is based on a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods – as is the case at Aarhus BSS at Aarhus University in general.

The centre strives to deliver practice-based research at an international level.

  • Practice-based in the sense that the centre's research generally involves empirical data from Aarhus BSS and is always conducted for the ultimate purpose of enhancing the decision-making of teachers and managers at BSS within the area of teaching and learning.
  • International level in the sense that the centre's research is based on international research literature and theories on university teaching and subject-specific didactics and contributes to the same literature.

On this website, you can read about CTL's research projects, view publications by CTL employees, and see which activities, such as conferences and presentations, individual employees participate in and contribute to.
