Designing clear and coherent course descriptions

Formulate clear learning goals and become more systematic when you design courses e.g. by using L. Dee Fink’s planning tool “Integrated Course Design”.

Purpose/ Content

When planning individual lessons, blocks of lessons or complete courses, you need to create coherence between learning goals, teaching and learning activities, feedback and evaluation. This is not always an easy task, but in this workshop, we will introduce easy-to-use and applicable tools that will make it easier for you to plan and to describe the coherence you are aiming for.

Activities

  • Short lecturer presentations followed by group work/individual work focusing on developing or adjusting (own) course descriptions/descriptions of lessons or blocks of lessons.

Preparations

  • John Biggs (2012): What the student does: teaching for enhanced learning, Higher Education Research & Development, 31:1, 39-55
