Workshop: Focus on peer feedback

Systematise peer feedback with:

Purpose/ Content

For a number of years, it has been popular for instructors to initiate peer feedback activities to accommodate student demand for more feedback, which is a good idea. However, in order for peer feedback to be successful, it is necessary to clarify the purpose of the activity, how the activity interplays with other teaching and learning activities in the course and how the students are best prepared to perform the activity.

The purpose of the workshop is for the participants to gain insight into the choices they must make when planning a peer feedback activity and to learn how peer feedback can be supported by a digital tool that takes care of the distribution of student assignments and much more.

Activities

The activities in the workshop vary between short presentations, discussions and hands-on work.

The first part of the workshop deals with how peer feedback can become a fruitful learning activity, including how the dialogue between students can be improved and how to raise awareness about criteria with rubrics.

The second part concerns how a teacher can set up a peer feedback activity in the digital tool, Peergrade. In this part, various features of the tool will be presented, and the participants get the opportunity to set up a test activity themselves while support is available.

In the third and final part of the workshop, participants will, supported by dialogues with both course facilitators,  individually work with topics within peer feedback that they find relevant to their teaching situation.

Preparations

Participants are asked to create a user on Peergrade before the workshop and orientate themselves in the tool. They should also consider a course in which they wish to integrate peer feedback and bring the course description for the workshop.

CTL also offers:

this workshop as a commissioned or ‘tailor-made’ workshop or as a presentation for teaching teams or at academic events at programme, department or section level at Aarhus BSS.
